At the national level, participants reported that 66% of their departments hired new physicians in the past 12 months, compared with 72% last year; 56% will add new staff in the next 12 months, compared with 66% last year. A total of 75% of respondents’ emergency departments in the West added physicians in the last 12 months, compared with just 58% of those in the Southeast. More hospitals in the Northeast (82%) have Fast Track components than in other parts of the country. More emergency departments in the North Central area utilize a straight RVU plan than in other areas of the country.
