During its June Board meeting, the ACEP Board of Directors approved a new policy to replace the 2006 version of “Critical Issues in the Management of Adult Patients Presenting to the Emergency Department with Acute Heart Failure Syndromes.” It focuses on the diagnostic accuracy of point-of-care lung ultrasound, the safety and efficacy of diuretics, the safety and efficacy of vasodilator therapy with high-dose nitroglycerin, and which group of patients can be safely discharged home.
