Dr. Jonathan Baktari, an internist in Las Vegas and CEO of e7 Health and U.S. Drug Test Centers, told Reuters Health by email that he believes the monoclonal antibody strategy is currently the best way to prevent COVID-19 aside from vaccines.
“In general,” said Dr. Baktari, who was not involved in the new study, “developing these medications is a very difficult and time-consuming process.”
“Just like with HIV, we need the next few years to develop antiviral medications specifically targeting the COVID-19 virus. Unfortunately, I doubt that will happen in the near or immediate future,” he said.
