Jim Holliman, MD, FACEP, was honored with the Gautam Bodiwala Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM) conference in Seoul, South Korea. This is IFEM’s highest honor, recognizing an individual who has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to both IFEM and the specialty of emergency medicine in their home country.
Dr. Holliman has devoted his career to the international development of emergency medicine, including past service as IFEM’s president. In 1994, he founded the Center for International Medicine at Penn State University’s Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania, which operated a fellowship program to train future international leaders for emergency medicine. In 2008, he became a professor of military and emergency medicine with the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, where he was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan to develop an emergency health care system and to train first responders.

Louise B. Andrew MD JD FIFEMI have known Jim for what seems like forever (actually after a chance meeting when I made my only lifetime visit to an ED, and he was my assigned EP!) I was a co-founder of the ACEP International Section, so I thought I knew a lot about Jim’s efforts. I wrote a biographical sketch of him for an EM publication a few years back, and I was blown away by how much more he had done than I had even BEGUN to be aware of.
There could not possibly be a more appropriate person to receive this award. Wish I could say “congratulations!!!” in about 16 different languages (he could). So I’ll just go for 10, at https://bit.ly/Kudoes
