I agree with Dr. Baehren (“Let My People Go,” April 2012, p. 2) that EMTALA is unfair to EPs. However, I completely disagree about the constitutionality of the so-called individual mandate. As an ACEP member I would like to ask you to keep political partisanship out of opinion pieces. Or perhaps I am wrong to assume ACEP is a nonpartisan organization.

ACEP News: Vol 31 – No 06 – June 2012Dr. Baehren unnecessarily alienates a substantial portion of his audience by being partisan. For example, I consider myself a centrist politically. I would like to see FTCA protection as a trade off for the EMTALA requirement that we take all comers. I’d also like to see other tort reform. However, I very much support our President and I don’t appreciate seeing him bashed within a regular column in an ACEP publication.
