Optiflow Nasal High Flow in theER and Across the Care Continuum
2:30–3:15 p.m.
Product Showcase I
Speaker: John Fraser, MBChB, PhD, MRCP, FRCA, FFARCSI, FCICM
Oxygen (O2) is one of the principal therapies provided across thecare continuum. Traditionally, O2 has been delivered using standard nasal prongs or masks. However, patients are unable to toleratethese unconditioned gases; therefore, their maximal flow rates are limited to 15 L/min. At these flow rates, the patients’ inspiratory flow demand is not met, and as a result, room air is entrained, diluting the supplemental O2 and significantly decreasing the fraction of delivered inspired oxygen (F1O2). In contrast, nasal high flow (NHF) therapy delivers totally conditioned gas via nasal cannula at a range of flows (up to 60 L/min). These flows of gas also provide a degree of dynamic positive pressure and a clearance of CO2 from within the anatomical dead space. The range of F1O2 that can be accurately delivered is between 21 percent and 100 percent. A reduction in work of breathing has been demonstrated. NHF has many proven clinical and physiological benefits that are achieved through a variety of mechanisms.

Urgent Warfarin Reversal for Fastand Sustained Action: A Case-Based Presentation
2:30–3:15 p.m.
Product Showcase II
Speaker: David M. Janicke, MD, PhD
Please join us for a case-based educational session. Dr. Janicke of the University at Buffalo will explore clinical situations in which rapid reversal of warfarin is required in patients who experience acute major bleeding as well as patients on warfarin therapy in need of urgent surgery/invasive procedures. This program will review the clinicaldata for a single-dose, U.S. Food and Drug Administration–approved alternative to plasma for urgent warfarin reversal. Please arrive early as space is limited.
