Sickle cell disease is the most common inherited blood disorder in the United States. The unpredictable severe pain leads to emergency department visits, and the lack of evidence and easy-to-use guidelines to manage pain leads to frustration for patients and physicians alike. The Emergency Department Sickle Cell Care Coalition, in partnership with the American Society of Hematology, has developed an easy-to-use point-of-care tool to help all emergency physicians care for acute vaso-occlusive episodes for patients with sickle cell disease.
